Your Situation

If you have pension pots from previous employers sitting dormant and forgotten…

Most people who have worked for more than one employer over their career have accumulated multiple pension pots — some from companies they left decades ago, some with providers they barely remember. The Association of British Insurers estimates there are over £26 billion in lost or unclaimed pension pots in the UK. If you have old pensions, finding them, understanding what they contain, and deciding what to do with them is one of the most valuable financial exercises you can undertake.

Castle Stonebridge helps individuals across the UK trace, review, and where appropriate consolidate old workplace and personal pensions. Consolidation is not always the right answer — some older pensions carry valuable guaranteed annuity rates or protected benefits that should not be surrendered without careful analysis. We assess each pension individually and give you a clear recommendation for each one.

Questions We Answer

"Do I have pension pots I have lost track of?"

Many people are unaware of the full value of their pension entitlements — tracing old pots is the essential first step.

"Am I paying high charges on old pensions that are dragging on my returns?"

Pre-2001 pension plans often have annual management charges of 1.5%–2%, which compounds significantly over time.

"Do any of my old pensions have protected benefits or guaranteed annuity rates I should keep?"

Guaranteed annuity rates from older policies can be extremely valuable and must be identified before any transfer decision is made.

"Would consolidating into one pension make my retirement planning simpler and more effective?"

Fewer pensions means lower combined administration costs, clearer oversight, and simpler income planning at retirement.

"Am I invested appropriately in my old pension pots given how far away retirement is?"

Dormant old pension pots are often left in default funds that may not reflect your risk appetite or time horizon.

Our Approach

How We Guide You

01

Pension tracing and gathering

We help you locate all pension pots using HMRC, the Pension Tracing Service, and your employment history — even pots you had forgotten about.

02

Individual pension analysis

We analyse each pension — charges, investment performance, guaranteed benefits, and any protected or enhanced features — before any consolidation is considered.

03

Consolidation recommendation

We provide a clear recommendation for each pension: consolidate, retain, or place under review — with full reasoning for each decision.

04

Transfer management

Where consolidation is recommended, we manage the transfer process and select appropriate new investment strategies for your consolidated pension.

Key Considerations

What you should know before making a decision

  • Not all old pensions should be consolidated. Pensions with guaranteed annuity rates (GARs), safeguarded benefits, or defined benefit sections require specialist analysis before any transfer.
  • Lost or dormant pension pots can be traced for free using the government's Pension Tracing Service at gov.uk or by contacting previous employers' HR departments.
  • Consolidating pensions typically involves a transfer, which is a regulated activity. Any pension with a defined benefit element worth over £30,000 requires regulated advice before transfer.
  • The value of any personal or workplace pension is subject to investment risk. Tax treatment of pension transfers depends on individual circumstances and current legislation.
